Fasting Porridge / Nonbu Kanji

Fasting Porridge /  Nonbu Kanji

Servings:3 to 4 persons

Ingredients:

  • Jeerakasamba or broken rice - 2 cup
  • Water - 4 cup
  • Shallots - 10(chopped)
  • Tomato-1 small (chopped)
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon - 1 small piece  
  • Star Anise - 1
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt


For Grinding:


  • Shallots - 
  • Grated Coconut - 2 cup
  • Red Chillies - 2
  • Fennel Seeds(Perinjeerakam) - 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon - 1/4 stick



Method:

Pressure cook the rice until mashed well.




Keep ready all the ingredients for grinding.


Grind them by adding little water.



Strain the masala with the help of a strainer.




Once the rice are cooked well,add the strained coconut-masala puree to it.Add turmeric powder,curry leaves and salt.Cook for 20 -25 min .




Heat oil in a pan and add cloves,cinnamon ,star anise.Once they are cracked well



To this add the tomatoes and saute for a min.



Add the above tempering to the rice and switch off the stove.



Delicious  nonbu kanji is ready to serve.
